Worship Lyrics

WON ME OVER

Surrendered your body slain upon that tree

My heart faints to think you'd give your life for me

(Chorus)

The cross has spoken

my chains are broken
Your love has won me over

Now I stand forgiven
Of all my sin

For your love has won me over

The wrath of the Father borne upon your shoulders

You life laid our debt paid all to the glory of your name

GOODNESS OF GOD
I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

CHORUS
'Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In darkest night You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father
I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God

CHORUS

Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
Your goodness is running after, it's running after me
With my life laid down, I surrendered now

CORNERSTONE

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name
(Chorus)
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil
(Chorus)
When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne
(Chorus)

SERMON NOTES

Thankful for My Shepherd, Pt. 1
Psalm 23:1-3a
Notes

Psalm 23 has always been a passage of Scripture that, for the Christian,
brings quiet to a worried mind, calm to a troubled soul,
and comfort to a burdened heart, because it speaks of the
Good Shepherd’s love for his flock, his sheep, us.

Charles Spurgeon: “The Pearl of Psalms”

Henry Ward Beecher: “The Nightingale of the Psalms”

John Staughton: “The richest of the constellations”

St. Augustine: “The Hymn of the Martyrs,"

Jewish people sing or read it after the last meal of their Sabbath Day.

Jack R. Lundbom: “It is for parents who survive the folly of rebellious children, for people returning from war, for someone recently out of jail.”

This is a Psalm of David, a Psalm of trust and confidence in the Lord.
It is a reassuring Psalm that promises God will be our ever present help in time of need both now and in eternity.

Psalm 23:1— The Lord is my shepherd; (Jehovah-Rohi: the Lord my Shepherd)

John 10:11— I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Is he your Shepherd? Can you say “The Lord is my Shepherd”?

Psalm 100:3— Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Book recommendation: “A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23” by Phillip Keller.

John 10:7-10—“Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Is the Lord your Shepherd?

Do you respond to his authority and acknowledge his ownership?

Do you sense a purpose and deep contentment because you are guided by him?

Do you flourish and rejoice regardless of what life brings you because you are under his care?

Have you taken that crucial first step to give up everything to him?

Psalm 23:1b—I shall not want.

God knows right where you are. He knows the struggles you are facing, the difficult people who are challenging you, the heartaches and the disappointments and the grief. And he cares.

Psalm 121:5-8— The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Psalm 23:2—He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.

In the Christian’s life, there is no substitute for the keen awareness that our Good Shepherd is nearby.

Hebrews 13:5—“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”

Matthew 28:20—And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
While he leads us to still waters, the still waters lead us to him.

Jesus says in John 7:37—“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

When we drink we will find continual satisfaction, that the very thirst of the soul, mind and spirit will be quenched.

John 4:14—…whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

When you trust the Lord as your Shepherd, when you are content in him, trusting him to guide you to green pastures and quiet waters, then this will be the result:
Psalm 23:3a—He restores my soul.

“He restores my soul” can refer to repentance and conversion, but it also can mean relief and refreshment.

Zephaniah 3:17—The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

-
“Thank you for being my Shepherd, Lord!”
-
“Thank you that I have everything I need.”
-
“Thank you for giving me rest on all sides.”
-
“Thank you that you restore my soul!”

Communion/Offering song
JESUS, THANK YOU

VERSE 1
The mystery of the cross I cannot comprehend
The agonies of Calvary
You the perfect Holy One, crushed Your Son
Who drank the bitter cup reserved for me

CHORUS
Your blood has washed away my sin
Jesus, thank You
The Father’s wrath completely satisfied
Jesus, thank You
Once Your enemy, now seated at Your table
Jesus, thank You

VERSE 2
By Your perfect sacrifice I’ve been brought near
Your enemy You’ve made Your friend
Pouring out the riches of Your glorious grace
Your mercy and Your kindness know no end
